Verilux HappyLight 2500 Twin Pack VTCP01: Two for the Price of One

Happy Light 2500

If you're suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), light therapy is an effective, drug-free form of treatment. Found to be just as effective as antidepressants in clinical trials, it can improve mood, sleep, and carbohydrate cravings in a relatively short time.
Caused by seasonal variations in sunlight, SAD responds to full spectrum light. Full spectrum light contains all the wavelengths of natural sunlight and closely mimics it.

Amazon Customer Reviews
Rated an overall 4 stars out of a possible five stars by Amazon customers, the HappyLight 2500 has 7 five-star reviews, 5 four-star reviews, 1 three-star review, zero two-star reviews, and 2 one-star reviews. Some of five-star reviews are below:
  • S. Place bought the Verilux HappyLight 2500 to take the edge off the winter blues. While she uses one on her desk in the morning, she attatched the other one to dimmer so it acts as a wakeup light. Since she hates her alarm clock, it's set to come on about 15 minutes before she awakens. Not only does she have more energy now, she awakens easier and no longer needs to use the snooze button. She says these lights have really helped her, and it is a good alternative to dealing with depression.
  • Tea Lover uses one of the lights at home and the other one at the office. She says you can't beat the price at Amazon, and she recommends these for anyone that has the winter blues or other non-seasonal mood swings.
  • Jack Cameron has had his HappyLight for a year. He says it works great, and it's nice to read by. It easily sits on his desk and looks nice, the bulb is still bright, and it hasn't given him any problems.

Cons

The main con with the Verilux HappyLight 2500 is the intensity of the light. In clinical trials, 10,000 lux was found to effectively treat SAD. However, the HappyLight 2500 highest lux setting is only 2,500 lux.

Both the distance away from the  light and the time of the treatment affect the efficacy of light therapy. Since there is an inverse relationship between lux and treatment time, the more lux, the less time you need to sit nearby a light. There is also a direct relationship between lux and the distance the light is away from you. The closer the light, the more lux you recieve.
For instance, according to the HappyLight 2500 owner's manual, the recommended treatment times would be:
  • 1 to 2 hours @ a distance of 5" to 12" away from the light
  • 2 to 4 hours @ a distance of 12" to 18" away from the light
  • 8 hours @ a distance of 18"+ away from the light

Furthermore, according to Verilux, although you should preferably choose mornings for your treatment time, it is not necessary to sit by the light continuously. You can divide the treatment time into mini sessions. It is also important to remember that treatment times can differ dependant upon the individual.

At the Amazon site, the only cons were is that the packaging isn't as good as it could be, and two of the lights were broken when upon delivery. At the Verilux website, there were only two cons listed by customers. 1. The light can become hot. 2. It has a limited affective area since the lights are small. Jokingly, one customer said one con was others wanted to borrow it.

Overall, most customers are very satisfied and pleased with the HappyLight 2500. Since full spectrum light is also the type of light plants need, one customer uses it as a plant light when she's not using it for light therapy.
For less than the price of one of other SAD lights, you can enjoy the healing powers of sunlight and improve your mood, energy levels, and more. Currently (6-11-11), this twin pack of HappyLights is priced at $77.99. At 57% off, your savings is $102.00. Since there is only three left in stock, buy it now before they run out or prices go up.
